Galveston
was the most important city in the American Southwest during the 1890's
It was the port city serving all of Texas. That was until the Great
Storm of 1900. The island never regained it's prominence but much
of its beauty, charm, and heritage remains today. Galveston is one
of the great secrets in Texas. A wonderful place to visit and experience.
See the bustling port, the magnificent mansions (one of which is one of
the 100 best historical buildings in the United States), the great seawall
used to protect the island from "overflows of the sea", the Strand historical commercial
district and of course the famous Moody Gardens.
Sample these scenes
from the Island.
